Obituary

Obituary for Tara Kathleen Mitchell

TARA KATHLEEN MITCHELL, aged 27, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 5th, 2019, in Houston, Texas. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and mother, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Tara was born on March 3rd, 1992, to Suzanne Humphrey and to the late Michael Sean Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter Kara; mother, Suzanne; brother, Nicholas Reed Voorhies, Jr. and wife Kasi; sister, Megan Elizabeth Reninger and husband Chase; nephew, Nicholas Reed Voorhies III; nieces Drew Payton Voorhies and Violette Elizabeth Reninger; grandfather, John Keith Mitchell; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Michael Sean Mitchell, brother Sean Keith Mitchell, grandmothers Dolores McCarrick Mitchell and Ruth Humphrey McCullough, grandfather James Burns Humphrey, Sr., and uncle Blake Stephen Mitchell.

Tara attended John Paul II Catholic School, Memorial Middle, Memorial High School, and Lake Travis High School. As a child, she participated in Girl Scouts, Gymnastics, Violin, Basketball, and was an avid reader. She was especially a fan of The Harry Potter novels.

It is impossible to capture the entirety of a person’s life in an obituary, and especially someone whose adult life was largely defined by drug addiction. But, even throughout her struggles, her warm smile and big heart brought so much joy to those around her. We want others who are struggling with addiction to know that hundreds of thousands of families who have lost someone to this disease are praying for you, and we believe with all our hearts that you can and will make it. We love you, Tara, and know that you are now at peace with your brother and father. Rest In Peace.

A private memorial service and reception will be held and announced to invited guests. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made towards the education and care of Tara’s only child, Kara. Donations can be made to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/vf58gt-kara.

Hi Tara! CCA sister here. What terrible news to hear. However, I do remember your bright smile and tenacious attitude while at CCA. Sending Peace, Love, and Comfort to your family and your daughter.

I haven't talked to Tara in so long, but I have visited her Facebook page everyday for the past few days hoping each time that something would be different. That someone had made a mistake and she was okay, happy and smiling with her family. Tara played such a huge role in the earliest chapters of my life. She was my first friend. Before her, I was afraid. Afraid of liking the things I liked, afraid of the opinions of others. But then I met this girl. She was so beautiful. Not just in the way she looked, but in the way she thought. In the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about the things she loved. The kind of beautiful that could only come from being brave. She loved the things I was afraid to love without hesitation. We watched Anime together, and played video games. We would run away to the fort we built in the woods, that we affectionately named Jublic, when life felt too heavy. She was the first person who made feel safe and comfortable enough to be myself- something I couldn’t stop being even after she moved away. Something I’ll be for the rest of my life. Because of her.

I love you, Tara.

Oh Rachel sweetheart, what a beautiful beautiful sentiment. I regret never going to see Jublic. It must have been wonderful since you, Sean, Nicole nd Tara were always there. Tara was so special. I am forever heartbroken. Thank you for sharing. I sent your Mom a text. PM me if she didn't receive it. Love you.

Tara was the best friend, in so many ways. She had the kindest heart and the sweetest soul. I am so thankful for our memories, that i will forever cherish. Thank you for being there for me no matter the time or day, and never making me feel judged. You will always hold a special place in my heart. As selfish as it is for me to want you back, i know you are finally at peace and reunited with your brother and dad whom I know you missed so much. I will miss you forever. I love you so much, Taraita!
